There are a plethora of books, articles, and other scams out there that say things like “$5,000/day for doing nothing online!” or “Start a website and quit your day job in two months!” Well let me bring the reality to you, it’s not going to happen unless you put a lot of work into anything you do online. I think it’s safe to say that if you intend on making an online income to live off of, you might need to put in more work than your current day job.
Take Your Time
Don’t despair, it may take a lot of time and effort but you can still chip away at it while working your day job. The great thing about whatever it is you do online, is the more work and time you put into it, the greater and bigger it gets! Take this blog for example, if I write one article, it’ll be here forever unless I stop paying for the web hosting and domain name. While, I’m not going to be bringing in millions of dollars from this website alone, it has the potential to create a nice income stream to help me.
You need to take things in strides, don’t expect to have a perfect website or online business overnight, create a plan, set goals and work at it in bits and pieces so that you don’t get burned out. Success isn’t made just from talent. Talent is only 10% of it, persistence and hard work is the other 90% of it, and you need to ensure that you give yourself the best chance possible to continue being persistent and continue to work hard.
Goals and Dreams
We all dream, whether if it’s becoming #1 in the world for something, making a lot of money, or just being happy. You need to set goals in order to achieve a dream, so write it down! Just by talking about it, you could be bluffing with nothing to back it up, but by writing it down, you’re committing yourself to something.
Set both short term and long term goals! Short terms goals could be what you want to do today, or even in the next hour. Long term is 3-6 months and longer, have specific goals that you want to achieve so that you can gauge your progress as you go. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in one day! Neither is your online income!
Don’t Get Scammed!
If it sounds too good, it usually is. You can’t buy a $5 or even a $200 Ebook and expect to become rich overnight. Some of these Ebooks or packages that claim to lead to your instant success may have some useful information, but most likely you can find that useful information on sites like mine, for free!
If you’re buying something that you think is legitimate do some research for reviews on Google to see what it is you’re buying. Most likely someone has bought it before you and has tried it out and will save you the time, trouble, and money. Even if it’s only $5, that’s $5 you could spend elsewhere for something much better. Never, think “It’s only $5” a dollar saved is $2 earned. It’s always easy to spend, but always very hard to earn!
So Where’s the Opportunity?
There’s plenty of opportunity. While the online world seems like it’s full of websites and online businesses (and it is) there’s always room for new entrants to start something successful. You don’t have to start huge, you just need to start small and work your way up. Be unique and be helpful, these two traits itself will make you successful. Use your eyes as the consumer to feel out what others want and help other people feel happy and satisfy their needs and more! Anyone can buy a widget online, but they might buy your widget if you take a different approach and help the customer out by teaching them unique ways of using the widget.
Keep your eyes peeled! Even if a 100 people are doing what you’re considering doing, those 100 people are doing things differently. Half of them probably have horrible customer service and the 25 of them might have horrible pricing. While pricing isn’t the most important aspect, you don’t want to be charging ridiculous prices. Differentiate yourself from others by standing out and being helpful.

Creating an income source online is quite possible but there is no such thing as an easy route. While you might get lucky sometimes, you really do have to put a lot of work in. Many don’t get results right away and therefore quit. But there is always hope if you’re willing to put the time and effort in!

Break it into small steps so that you will be able to gauge your progress and adjust accordingly. Tell yourself and write down how much work you want to put in! Even 15 minutes a day can make an immense difference in the long run, the hard part is doing it every day or even every second day.
